1014...May Be It Is The Hot Chick Factor?

Don Martin opines in this morning's Edmonton Journal on why the knives seem to be always out for Ruby Dhalla, the Toronto area MP.

If it ain't one thing, it be the other with the Liberal MP. The most recent story was that she was going to pull a reverse Belinda Stronach and go from being a Liberal to being a Conservative.

One, that smells of serious bulls&$t and two, well, see number one.

The one thing that she does have in common with Ms. Stronach is that she is a hottie and there currently is a serious animus versus women who are both intelligent and beautiful. In the world of guydom it seems to work versus men who are smart and good at sports.

Mr. Martin writes enough already with the piling on Dr. Dhalla.

He also points out that "The troubling sidebar to this story is that Ruby Dhalla is precisely the demographic Canada's Parliament needs to reflect a society that's more than the blue-suited, grey-haired mob that dominates its benches now. But given this constantly shabby treatment of a young, female, visible-minority MP, it would not be surprising if they opt for voter apathy and parliamentary avoidance."

We really do need Parliament to represent Canada not represent a Canada that looks like, well, myself and Don Martin, doughy, pale, middle aged White boys. No need to exclude us haolies but...

  1. But why would the Tories want her on their team? She's not conservative? It's disappointing to see how beliefs don't even matter. It's just a numbers game.

  2. I wonder why Mr. Martin is so concerned in Ruby dhala's problems and keeps mentioning "she is a star, she is young, she is a business woman, she is intelligent, she is the first Sikh woman and so on...............and WHO CARES?
All of the above does not justify all her wrong doings as a member of parliament.
We have to be fair, some one with a high position should be smart enough not to bring her "beauty" before her responsibilities

  3. Good grief - Suzanne fell for the false rumour that there was a scheme to cross the floor ... sigh

Anon - who cares if she's smart, etc. Duh - you want stupid people in parliament (take a look at the Harper caucus - scary).

And, why do people insist on believing set up allegations? This is Canada - innocent until proven guilty and nothing has come of it.

...this is what we have voting in Canada.

  4. My comment is for the person who criticised both Suzanne and me.
I said "who cares" about all her beauty, but also said that she should not bring her beauty before her duty.
Please read my comments once again, and I hope this time I will be understood.
