1051...New Grand Puba In Manitoba

The land of a million moose has a new Premier.

CTV.ca is my source but it is reported widely that Greg Selinger, the long time finance minister in Gary Doer's NDP cabinet is the new Premier of Manitoba.

Mr. Selinger beat fellow cabinet member Steve Ashton rather handily in the balloting this afternoon. Mr. Selinger is from St. Boniface and has represented that area both municipally and provincially for many years.

He is considered as pragmatic and as much of a centrist, shall I say a liberal, as Gary Doer.

Once he takes office, Selinger will serve as Manitoba's premier until the scheduled 2011 provincial election.
