This nose stretcher is brought to you by buffet killer and Kanata, home of the other Ottawa Senators, resident Senator Mike Duffy, who ostensibly is a Conservative.
Mr. Duffy has been claiming that he lives in PEI but winters in Kanata or some other sort of lie. He gets extra cash for that lie. 21 large. Plus he is a Senator representing Prince Edward Island and therefore must have some sort of presence there.
To establish said presence the powers that control the purse on the Hill want proof of residence. They started an audit of where the Sens actually live on December 6 of last year. A health card, driver's license, maybe a cable bill will do.
Since Mr. Duffy has lived in Ottawa longer than I have he didn't have any proof so he, or someone from his office, contacted the PEI health card people before Christmas to get a heath card. Backdated would be nice. "Doug Currie, the province's health minister, confirmed to CBC News on Monday that Duffy applied for provincial health care just before Dec. 25, 2012, and that somebody contacted Currie's office about the application."
In other words Senator Duffy tried to pull a fast one to save his 21,000.00 $ housing allowance.
But no one likes the big man so here we are.

ReplyDeleteThere is another reason he needs to be a "resident" of PEI, all non-residents pay double property taxes. He is likely saving 10 large on that little boondoggle too.
