1227...Duffy P.E.I.'s Most Expensive Senator

That is what the headline in the Globe and Mail says this morning.

Newly minted cash for lifer Senator Mike Duffy's expenditures have been the focus of attention since NDP MP Peter Stoffer raised them last week. After raising said issue Mr. Stoffer and a visibly over refreshed Senator Duffy got into a bit of a shouting match about the issue on CBC's Power and Politics with Evan Solomon.

I must say that, in passing I may have mentioned the moist Senator from Prince Edward Island in Post 1198.

Not that I am obsessed or anything.

Repeating myself, let me indicate that NDP MP Peter Stoffer shed light on the expense claims of Senators, focusing on the easy target, Conservative Senator Mike Duffy. The new man on the Hill racked up more than $100,848 in travel and office expenses, more than double the average of what the other three Island senators spend in a typical quarter. Keep that up over a year, and I am sure there are buffets and open bars he has not flown to yet, Senator Duffy's expenses would come in at $403,392. This would make him the champion, beating the current champion Mobina Jaffer of British Columbia by 80,000 dollars.

Mr. Stoffer was trying to make the point that the 27 Senators that Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed this year will cost the Canadian taxpayer 177 million shekels over the course of their terms. And for what?

He didn't say it out loud but may be it is time for someone to make the Senate accountable or give it the gas.
