So you do think Stephen Harper's new law that would "slap one's butt in jail" is going to work. That's what the law is designed to do is put the fear of God into some of these criminals.

This is in reply to Post 1154...Cop Assaults Up.

Prairie Kid the problem with the Harper law is that it changes the level of criminality. Think about it this way. Right now if one gets caught running a little grow up, with an ounce or two of pot that they sell to the guys in the office [and, if you have more than 20 people at your job, statistically at least 3 of them are getting high and they are buying it from someone in your office, may be the person at the next desk] and one gets popped one will get a fine, community service, may be, just may be, a brief time in jail.

Under the American laws and the proposed laws here the sentences are much higher and what it does is force the people with something to lose, your co workers, out of the business of buying an ounce and dealing it and brings the losers, the dummies who settle their problems with violence, into the game.

That ain't good.

And Prairie Kid if you are living in Regina, Saskatoon or Winnipeg, you ain't seen nothing yet.

The new crime law will scare the f*ck out of people like you and me but for people with nothing to lose, not so much.

  1. I think you are taking this much too far. We're not talking about the "little guy" who sells dope. What Harper is suggesting is basically 2 things.

    1. Stop the criminals from using the system to get their 2 for 1 (and sometimes 3 for 1) credit. This goes on constantly.

    2. If criminals already in prison who refuse to attend programs designed to rehabilitate them, they must serve the entire time.

Please don't take this down the line to the guy who sells dope like the American system you are referring to. This has never been suggested or endorsed by the Conservatives. I hope you and other Liberals are not trying to scare everybody by suggesting this would happen in Canada because it wouldn't.

  2. TO PRAIRIE KID:

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
THERE IS NO SCARING, JUST A FACT.

WELCOME TO OVERCROWDED COURTS AND PRISONS.
MORE COSTS TO TAX PAYERS-RESPONSIBILITY PASSED ON THE PROVINCES.

    PRISONS, BIG MONEY, BIG BUSINESS.

EASIER TO TARGET SMALL CRIME AND RELATIVELY HARMLESS CITIZENS.
