2157...All Politics Is Local; All Culture Is Local

And it is on the latter issue that we fail miserably in Our Home And Native Land.

Earlier this year two stations, two AM stations, 940News and Nouvelles690, went dark in Montreal. Refer to WFDS Post 1690...Corus AM Montreal Ghandi. And they are cock blocking anyone who wants to set up shop and make a go of it on those two frequencies. 690 is an amazing blowtorch, covering huge swatches of Quebec, Ontario, New England and the Northeast and the fact that they couldn't figure out how to make money at that spot is retarded. In a window licking way. This has happened all across our country; there are many markets, 100,000 plus markets, that have no voice.

Things be different down south. In a similar sized market, D.C., $3.1 million is the price Salem is paying Red Zebra for Washington, D.C.’s WWRC (1260), to obtain a platform for its conservative talk lineup in the opinion capital of the Republic. Details of the transaction that T-R-I wrote about on Monday are finally available, as the deal’s filed at the FCC. Salem takes over operation of the 5-kw fulltime station on May 15, with an LMA that will produce a format change from Red Zebra’s “Money 1260” business talk format to conservative talk. Red Zebra, which has ties to the Washington Redskins franchise led by Daniel Snyder, still has the other two stations it bought from Clear Channel in 2008 (“ESPN 980” WTEM and talk WTNT/570). Plus the two FMs (WWXX, Buckland at 94.3, WWXT, Prince Frederick at 92.7) and one AM (WXTR, Alexandria at 730) that it acquired previous to that. Salem’s got the Christian teaching combo of WAVA-AM/FM (780/105.1). Broker on WWRC (1260) .

It just strikes me as a big pile of bullsh*t that we need quotas and good hearted/wrong minded people like Ian Morrison to impose cultural quotas [that ignore the smaller centres btw] and the most dominant culture, the USA, lets the market decide.

Oy vey.
