2132...Bernie Carbo, Hall Of Famer

Unless you are a baseball freak the name Bernie Carbo probably doesn't resonate.

Nonetheless he did play eleven years in the bigs and he came off the bench to hit one of the most amazing homers in World Series history, a three run pinch-hit shot in the eighth inning of game six of the 1975 World Series, the greatest game in the history of the Fall Classic.

Last week he told The Boston Globe that he had smoked two joints, drunk three or four beers and swallow some amphetamines and a pain pill that day before being summoned from the bench.

He also told The Globe that that was the norm for Mr. Carbo: "I don't think I ever missed a day of being high. I played the outfield sometimes where it looked like the stars were falling from the sky."

This is why the career .264 hitter, 96 dingers, deserves not only to be in the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame [he is] he also deserves to be in Cooperstown.
