Senator Analyzes Parliamentary Mood
Canada's Parliament has become more vicious, raucous, and personal according to one of the country's newest senators.
Former broadcaster Mike Duffy was the keynote speaker at this week's fundraising dinner in Morden for Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Hoeppner.
He believes it's a clash of personalities rather than ideas that has prompted this change.
Duffy says neither the NDP nor the Liberals have any better ideas than the Conservatives, so instead they are making mountains out of mole hills about all kinds of minor issues trying, in some way, to get Canadians to become fed up with Prime Minister Stephen Harper by having a lot of rhetoric in the media.
Duffy says on the economy specifically, Prime Minister Harper has done an excellent job pointing to a recent OECD report that stated Canada has the strongest economy in the G-7.
He notes Harper is an economist by profession, and with the help of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, wrote the economic plan for what we should do to get the country out of the recession and it seems to be working.
He would of spoke longer but he noticed the buffet was running low on egg rolls and spare ribs.

That's your in-depth commentary and analysis on the content of his speech? Cracks about his weight?
ReplyDeleteSorry, after reviewing, I now realize the BA- rump-bump is the essentially unique tagging of your blog. :) Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteHa! Good one 8^)
Funny that Tubby forgot to mention that the policies that have kept Canada ahead are the policies the Liberals enacted, and that Harper opposed.
As far as a coarsening of Parliament, has Duffy not realized that this happened the same time the CPC got into power?
You are right Paul,
ReplyDeletebecause Chretien/Martin implimented the Reforms platform of debt/deficit reduction and 'not' the Dippers 'national daycare' and other extended social programs,
Canada weathered the economic storm extreamly well.
This government simply carried on the good policy of the previous Liberal government (lifted from Reform/Alliance platform).
Sadly, it now seems the LPC is willing to embrace those policies they once rightly rejected.

ReplyDeleteRiiiiight.

Sorta like Harper. The diff being, the Liberals actually did something to protect Canadians and Canada's financial sector. Harper bitched and moaned. If it weren't for the Liberals, and the ground work laid by Chretien and Martin, Harper and his party would be in the toilet.
Careful there, musn't upset the likes of Wilson there. They spend most of their time trying to defend Harper - must be a very tiring.

(by the way, if they don't tell you, it's all the Liberals fault)
