1007...Who Is The Head Of State?

Campbell Clark in today's Globe and Mail asks "Just who does Governor-General Michaƫlle Jean think she is? Canada's head of state? The Queen's representative? Or a bit of both? "

The question I ask is why do we need either?

The Prime Minister could be both, eh? Or we could do like Ireland and elect a President who cuts ribbons and kisses babies. Why do we need a foreign monarch to be our head of state?

  1. It's not a "need." Perhaps it is good idea to change the 'way it is' for a new way, the 'way it will be.' Of course, giving Harper a majority will hasten that change, likely a change that most Canadians really would rather not occur.

Do you really want to open up the constitution for constitutional change?

  2. One, f*)k the constitution; I am not British, nor are any of my relatives; why should I have a foreign dignatary on my coins and why should I have to swear to her?

    Canada should be for Canadians.

  3. The monarch is out dated and useless not to mention disgraceful(i.e. prince charles). Getting rid of that whole family would save us millions. The only swearing I do to the Queen is not apropiate for your your blog I'm sure.
