5155...Football In Your Capital

A bunch of clowns have done their best to stop Lansdowne, the former and future stadium of Ottawa's CFL franchise to be refurbished.

Problem is when it is refurbished will the CFL team be any good?  CFL teams haven't had a winning season since 1976.  That was during the Gerald Ford administration; Joe Clark was the new leader of the Tories and; you could buy brand new black and white [wot's dat?] televisions.

Football doesn't do well in Ottawa.  The fans are there but the teams, not so much.  Carleton went out of the footie biz in the late '90s after sucking the pipe for frigging ever; the University of Ottawa has been a perenial power but now they too are sucking the pipe.

The revolving door of coaches at Ottawa U that started when Marcel Bellefuille bolted for the CFL has landed on Gary Etcheverry.  OMG.  Etch is no Joe Pao Pao; no one is as bad as the Waterloo coach, but he also is no Steve Spurrier. His track record as a head coach is like 6 and 40 and I wouldn't anticipate the number on the left getting any bigger. What puzzles me about him and Mr. Pao Pao is why anyone would hire them. Like, do they work for food or something? They are both terrible coaches. I know nothing about football but I could pull off the kind of season these men consistently bring to the table.   It doesn't take a magic man to lose 80/90 per cent of the time.

As I write this the Gee Gees are all we have in Ottawa; let's hope for football fans in your capital that President Allan Rock makes a decision on the flagship athletic team at the U of Zero and gasses Mr. Etcheverry toute and suite.
