1734...Quebec Gets Its First Saint

And he doesn't wear skates.

It's Brother Andre. For those of you that don't know, Brother Andre is "...the founder of Montreal's impressive Saint Joseph's Oratory and [the Globe and Mail reports]...venerated by generations of worshipers who sought healing from him, is about to become the first Quebec-born saint."

Pope Benedict will announce who is going to be the next Saints on the 19th. "'It is now a certainty that Brother André will become a saint,' said Father Jean Pelletier, a spokesman for the archdiocese of Quebec City. 'When anyone considered for sainthood reaches this stage, that's because it's a sure thing.'"

The Oratory, which is on the border of Notre Dame de Grace and Westmount on the west side in Montreal is both an amazing spiritual and touristy venue. It is huge, always teeming with pilgrims and awe inspiring.
