BBC News drops the story that new 800m world champion Caster Semenya, an 18 year old woman, has been asked to drop 'em and prove that she is a she.
Problem is she is not exactly Miss America, if you know what I mean. She is a mannish girl and the haters in the world want her to prove that she truly is a she. In a statement, the African National Congress condemned the speculation surrounding Ms. Semenya, who won gold at the Athletics World Championships in Berlin on Wednesday, leaving her rivals in the dust.
It is just so difficult to be a woman who has any profile. Refer back to Post 482 where I point out that former minister of the Crown, Belinda Stronach, was hated on while she was in Ottawa because she is hot and rich, the fact that she is super smart, never mentioned. Ditto current Italian minister and love of my life Mara Carfagna who, at 33, is a veteran of Italian politics and a minister of the state but, because she is ridiculously good looking, hate pours down on her like rain.
Flip over to our young running star and her problem is the opposite. A graduate of the k. d. lang school of beauty, she runs fast, can bench press more than the average NFL lineman and therefore is hated because she is not hot enough. Give up already people, give up.

News from the old country, provided the old country for you is Italy, comes from ANSA.it and they have a story of striking financial genius performed by Ficarra Mayor Basilio Ridolfo.
Ficarra is a small town in Sicily, a small broke town in Sicily, and Mayor Ridolfo is hoping to recitify that in the most fiscally conservative way extant. Through the purchase of lottery tickets. He appropriated 115 euros from the salaries of town councillors to buy tickets in the plus one hundred million euro SuperEnalotto draw last Tuesday.
No word on who won the Italian state lottery but I am pretty certain it was not Ficarra.

519...Good News For Stephen Harper
Earlier this week Peter O'Neil of Canwest News Services reported some good news for our beloved Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.
He was soundly endorsed by 1970's pop icon Bob Geldof.
The future Calgary Real Estate salesman of the year won praise from musician-activist Bob Geldof at the conclusion of the G8 summit in central Italy after Harper vowed that Canada, as host of the 2010 summit, will press countries such as Italy to stop breaking their promises on development assistance.

I believe it is.
If Fen Hampson of the U of K thinks this is a coup then Fen Hampson may want to update his canon of popular culture knowledge.
Still, with the Bob Geldof endorsement in hand perhaps Prime Minister Harper could get Pat Boone and the cast of Hair! to go door knocking with him.
That will grab the kids.

516...Italian Weddings Are So Full Of Excitement
One only has to drive by St. Anthony's Church, Booth and Gladstone here in Ottawa, any summer Saturday afternoon to see that.
My people, the Irish Catholics do death well; the Italians have the corner on weddings.
For a wedding to really be a hit it has to have something different, something more exciting than the other sixteen weddings you have been to this summer.
No different in Italy. Weddings in the old country are always trying to out do themselves.
Corriere della Sera reports about a recent wedding reception held at beautiful Montioni Park in Suvereto, near Livorno, the bride and groom had hired a microlight plane to fly past and throw the bouquet to a line of women guests, however, the flowers were sucked into the plane's engine causing it to catch fire and explode.

The aircraft plunged into a hostel. One passenger on the plane was badly hurt.
But about 50 people who had been in the hostel escaped unscathed, as did the pilot.

Just because Miss Carfagna is ridiculously hot does not mean that she is any less accomplished.
She is a minister of the state, hello, pay attention please.
BTW, there are many reasons to hate on Miss Carfagna; her looks should not be one of them.

As published in today's paper, a national poll conducted by The Strategic Counsel for The Globe and Mail and CTV, sadly shows Stephen Harper's Conservative Party has the support of 34 per cent of respondents, a one-point edge over the Liberals who are, ah, let me check my online calculator. 33.
The Dips are at 15.
Pollster Peter Donolo says that the numbers show that Michael Ignatieff's honeymoon as new leader of the Liberals is over, c'est toute, done like dinner.
In reaction to that Mr. Ignatieff will go on vacation shortly after giving the Isaiah Berlin lecture Wednesday in London, England, at the Liberal International, the world organization of liberal and progressive democratic political parties.
Our beloved Prime Minister will be off to Italy for a G8 meeting and then to The Vatican to chill out with Pope Benedict XVI.

That said, I don't want Canada's democracy to fall into the pattern that Italy had before electoral reform and Silvio Berlusconi's charisma changed the face of their elected houses and Israel has, that being repeated elections that come up with minority government after minority government.
Tom Flanagan, Tory operative and poli sci prof at the University of Calgary writes in today's Globe and Mail that the cycle of minority governments "...could go on for a long time...the NDP winning 20 or 30 seats...Bloc winning 40 or 50, it's almost impossible for either the Liberals or Conservatives to get a majority...there just aren't enough seats in play for either to win 155...for the last five years [government] has been a condominium project of the two big parties."
The one good thing about this Liberal-Conservative, Conservative-Liberal sorta coalition is that it is not, like in the Israel's Knesset, a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Colonel Qaddafi met with Equal Opportunities Minister Mara Carfagna and at that meeting he called for a feminist uprising and condemned the Arab World for treating women like “furniture.” “We need a feminist revolution,” Qaddafi said in a speech in Rome last week after the meeting with Miss Carfagna, who Maxim Magazine has in their top 1 of hottest politicians in history.
Sidebar. Not only is Miss Carfagna ridiculously attractive, she is also young, smart and has the highest profile, at least outside of Italy, of any of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's cabinet.
