524...Remedial Media: Ottawa Citizen

Except they are from New York, but, hey, what is 1,000 miles between friends?

I mean, they both border on Ontario, right?

Problem with this is, when the paper of record in the capital of a G8 country cannot get little bitty facts like where Kiss is from how are we to believe them on the big issues?

Nitpicking, I am.

482...More Hating On Hotties

Mara Carfagna is the Italian Equal Opportunities Minister.

In the cabinet.

Big deal politically.

33 years old and a lawyer, she has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2006 representing Forza Italia in Salerno.

But she is also a hottie so, of course, the headline in the Telegraph, a proper London, England broadsheet, is not

Italian Prime Minister To Be Escorted By Minister At G8
of course not. Instead the headline is

Silvio Berlusconi picks former topless model Mara Carfagna as G8 escort
Geez, she is a bloody minister of the state, why, why, why is she being hated on? Answer: Because she is hot. Shades of the Shannon Tweed epoch that has unfolded in Ottawa. Get over it folks.
Just because Miss Carfagna is ridiculously hot does not mean that she is any less accomplished.
She is a minister of the state, hello, pay attention please.
BTW, there are many reasons to hate on Miss Carfagna; her looks should not be one of them.
Equality means equality.

458...Bad News

As published in today's paper, a national poll conducted by The Strategic Counsel for The Globe and Mail and CTV, sadly shows Stephen Harper's Conservative Party has the support of 34 per cent of respondents, a one-point edge over the Liberals who are, ah, let me check my online calculator. 33.

The Dips are at 15.

Pollster Peter Donolo says that the numbers show that Michael Ignatieff's honeymoon as new leader of the Liberals is over, c'est toute, done like dinner.

In reaction to that Mr. Ignatieff will go on vacation shortly after giving the Isaiah Berlin lecture Wednesday in London, England, at the Liberal International, the world organization of liberal and progressive democratic political parties.

Our beloved Prime Minister will be off to Italy for a G8 meeting and then to The Vatican to chill out with Pope Benedict XVI.

431...Animal News

In news that will make Lowell Green and the CFRA Nation happy, Tiffany Crawford and Peter O'Neil report in this morning's Montreal Gazette that the World Wildlife Federation ranks Canada eighth out of the eight countries that make up the G8 in terms of reacting to climate change.

"Nowhere else on Earth do fewer people steward more resources, yet Canada now stands dead last among the G8 nations in protecting our shared home from the threat of dangerous climate change," said foundation spokesman Keith Stewart.

The big bugaboo is the ongoing work in northern Alberta on exploiting the tarsands which has dire consequences for the environment according to the 2009 Climate Scorecard.

May be the Green Shift wasn't such a bad idea, eh?
