Problem with this is, when the paper of record in the capital of a G8 country cannot get little bitty facts like where Kiss is from how are we to believe them on the big issues?

484...Bluefest Blues

The 2009 Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest is happening as we speak and, of course, nimbyism is rampant.

All the papers---Le Droit, Le Sun, Le Citizen, Le Metro---are rife with stories of neighbours who are so angry that these rock and roll bands are playing their music so loud. I mean, like, why can't we have quiet rock and roll?

My friend Lindsay Ferguson, the pride of Belleville, will be making noise this evening at 6 15 on the Subway Stage on Lebreton Flats. Check her and her hot new Le Chateau clothes.

481...Shannon Tweed

Front page news, Ottawa Sun, is Kiss bassist Gene Simmons' long time squeeze, Shannon Tweed, who was supposed to have her own day in her former home town next Wednesday, Shannon Tweed Day, has been disrespected by Ottawa City Council.

Doug Thompson is taking his turn in the rotation of acting mayors that are replacing Larry O'Brien while he's awaiting acquittal on spurious charges brought by former rival and current window licker, Terry Kilrea. One of Mayor Thompson's first moves was to declare next Wednesday Shannon Tweed Day after the former playmate, who lived in Ottawa for several years.

Cannot have that in Ottawa, OMG. As Lowell Green said on CFRA's The Lunch Bunch, we cannot have that in Ottawa because it sounds like fun.

I swear, if Toronto is New York City designed by the Swiss, Ottawa is Toronto designed by the Amish.

Former bartender, party girl and model, Miss Tweed left our city about three decades ago in search of her dream. She achieved such by becoming first a Playmate Centerfold and then Playboy's Playmate of the Year in 1982.

Councillor Jan Harder said that the honour cannot simply be bestowed on someone who is well-known and has lived in the city. "It's a frivolous use of a proclamation process to honour somebody who, quite frankly, means nothing to the city of Ottawa," said Miss Harder.

Means nothing to Ottawa?

Tell that to any man who was a boy when Miss Tweed was naked in Playboy in the early 80's. Actually, more than something. A lot more than something. And a lot more than Steve MacLean [who's dat?] who was honoured with a day in Ottawa sometime in the past. We have also had a World Laughter Day and a bunch of other crap.

Miss Tweed's big problem is that she is hot and non hotties hate hotties.

Oh, last point, Matt Crosier, the General Manager of CKCU, told me over coffee yesterday that the City of Ottawa is prohibiting Miss Tweed's boyfriend's rock ensemble from using any explosions on stage next Wednesday night.

Explosions over the Peace Tower on Canada Day, we good. Explosions at a Kiss concert, no way.

Welcome to Ottawa.

Tomorrow a little chat with Steven Marriner from Monkey Junk, a band that is thrilled to be playing the 2009 Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest.

Mr. Marriner will be joining me via the phone from Oprah's hometown of Chicago at about 8 30 and I will have some of his music and may be, may be, some swag to give away.

315...Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest Moves

To a second venue,the Byward Market in Ottawa.

From July 9th to the 13th the 2009 Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest will have an outdoor stage at the corner of York and William on the market to complement the exiting LeBreton Flats site. Plus they will be using ten indoor venues such as Zaphod's, The Rainbow and Mavericks.

On the list of 75 acts hitting the Market are George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars, who, by the by, are ridiculous; Arrested Development and; Serena Ryder.

The Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest would like to recognize the generous support of the Government of Canada who were ably represented by the Honourable John Baird and a second Ottawa MP, Pierre Pollievre. Richard Mahoney, the President of the 'fest also said a few words as did the boss of bosses, Mark Monahan.

This is his second kick at it and this year he is the opening opening act of the Bluesfest. Tyler is going to hit the Hard Rock Cafe stage at 6 15 July 8th and he is in studio to give you a chance to check out his music and findout what it is like to be on stage at Bluesfest.

Tyler Kealey is a talented blues/jazz/pop pianist and singer who performs regularly at Fat Tuesdays in Ottawa, Ontario as part of a popular duelling pianos show. A piano man. He can also be heard at the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata playing a solo pop/jazz act.
