798...Fried Food Extravaganza

You may have spotted me in my Fleur de Lys sombrero Saturday at the Festival de Montgolfières de Gatineau.

You may have also noted that Lord Jesus, they deep fry everything at the
Festival de Montgolfières de Gatineau.

Except beer.

791...College Football Starts For Real Today

As if I care.

BTW, if you need me, I will be on the couch, remote in one hand, remote in the other hand with my beer helmet on.

758...But Officer The Horse Was Completely Sober

Australia.

It is just a wonderful land, warm, friendly and, probably because ethnically it is pretty much dominated by my people, the Irish, Oz is full of those who like to have a bit of alcohol induced fun.

ABC News, that's the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Company, Commission, whatever, reports that an unnamed Tennant Creek man has had his driving license pulled for six months because he drove drunk. He drove his horse drunk. The man had been told by police not to ride his horse home from a Tennant Creek pub in April coz he was too hammered. He had earlier tried to enter the pub with said horse which alerted the police to the situation.

Tennant Creek is in the middle of the Northern Territory making it about as middle of nowhere as one can get on this planet and still get beer on tap.

606...Happy Colonel By Day

For those of us living in Ontario, August 1st is a holiday. It used to be called Civic Holiday but, of course, that is way, way, way to simple. Cananot have that, eh? So now each region gives the first Monday in August a local name.

My MPP, Yasir Naqvi, sent me an email informing me that in Ottawa the day is Colonel By Day. He is the guy who, for trade and defense against the Yankees, dug a ditch from Ottawa to Kingston, the Rideau Canal.

Yay.

Bonus points are scored living on the border with Quebec because, as is the way with many things, if Ontario says up, Quebec says down and La Belle doesn't have a holiday on August 1st. Western Quebec does have some rocking sales in the malls including my personal favourite, 24s of beer, quality beer not Wildcat, for well under 20 dollars.

Vive la difference.

529...Starbucks Adding Another Drug To Menu

Caffeine will not be the only drug you can imbibe at a Starbucks store near you if the test in Seattle, Washington is successful.

A Starbucks in the west coast home of the chain is adding beer and wine to its list of mind altering drugs. Lauren Shepard of Associated Press reports that the store will be rebranded as 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea. It will open next week and will serve coffee and tea as well as wine and beer.

Uppers and downers.

Perfect.

The company said it will then open two more Seattle-area stores without the Starbucks name in new locations. If they click, next thing you know, South Keys, Square One, West Edmonton Mall.

In keeping with Starbucks pricing policies a pint of beer will be 18 dollars and a glass of wine 23.

477...Beer Playoffs Stella Artois Honest Lawyer Fri

Night at 8 30, Honest Lawyer, on The Market in Ottawa.

Learn the nine steps to pouring the proper draft.

The tenth is, of course, drinking the beer.

I am proficient at the tenth.

Look for the metro sexual in wearing the Red and Gold Sombrero.

I will be sitting next to him.

Same hat.

429...Rednecks Of The World Unite Via CFRA

I'm driving in my car.

I turn on CFRA.

I am listening to Lowell Green.

And he gets a call from New South Wales, Australia.

From a lad who's neck is redder than Lowell's.

Twas sweet.

They did a little immigrant bashing.

Too much taxes, not enough services, damn minority gangs.

And then the lad told Mr. Green he was on his 20th beer and that were that.

249...Get Your Drink On Tonight

In Ottawa, that is.

Carleton Tavern, Parkdale and Armstrong, across from the Parkdale Market.

The Hintonburg Economic Development Committee is having a welcome home party for Cheryl Parrott, a true pillar of the Hintonburg community who was involved in a horrific car accident in Saskatchewan and has just made her return to her home in Ottawa. The party, which includes fried food and beaucoup de beer, will be this Thursday night starting at six at the Carleton Tavern.

I will be wearing my Pittsburgh Penguins sombrero, black, and, of course, will have my Sharpie with me.

103...Gilles D and the Bloc Q

Dude was dissing our future Prime Minister Michael I and frankly, I don't get it.

What I don't get, among other things is, the BQ. You have been in the Parliament of a foreign-to-you country, Canada, since before I went to university and keeping stamping your feet and saying you are leaving but you don't go.

Iggy is not evil for wanting national education standards and for wanting to insure [ensure? I went to Carleton, and didn't major in spelling or grammar only English] energy sufficency for all from sea to shining sea, not just those from Rimouski to Rouyn.

Not evil.

Time for you to make your move Gilles D. or shut the f up.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Quebec. A lot. SuperC, Simon, Bedo. It is a cultural thing. And it isn't just the fact that they have cheap beer, no speed limits and you can touch strippers. No, it goes deeper than that.
