1411...Natives Pissed At HST

Natives and farmers.

Just once I would like to see either group have a press conference and tell the world that everything is all right, we are happy, stuff is going great.

But, no.

This time it is the soon to be introduced HST in British Columbia and Ontario that has Assembly of First Nation's National Chief Shawn Atleo up in arms. Quoted in the the Kingston Whig-Standard, the National Chief says the HST will mean "We're asking First Nations governments already to choose between whether food is going be put on the table or whether they're going to turn up the heat when its minus-30."

Really?

I mean really?

Things are that close to the edge that a small increase in taxation, and even that is questionable, is going to put your people over the edge.

I call bullsh*t.

AFN regional chief Angus Toulouse takes a more reasonable tack. He is upset that natives were not consulted when the tax was being drawn up and that the point of sale perk of no provincial sales tax is now replaced with the need to send in receipts and we all that that means lost receipts and less money in the pockets of natives. Not good.

"Native protesters blocked traffic around Queen's Park in Toronto last week, and Toulouse said future actions could range from demonstrations to sit-ins. "
