OMG and to believe a Tory insider told Susan Delacourt of the Toronto Star that they didn't have a chance in any of the four ridings up for grabs in tonight's byelection.
As it turned out, uh, yes, in Nova Scotia's Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley the Conservative candidate Scott Armstrong is reported by CBC News to have cruised to victory.
This does not bode well for the next Prime Minister of Canada, Michael Ignatieff.

Looks like the Tories will be picking up Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Rivière du Loup as well, 244 of 257 polls reporting and the Tories are leading the Bloc by over 1100 votes.

There you go, that was easy!
2 for 4 ain't bad.
ReplyDeleteThat the governing party has won twice in by-elections (means, we are told, to punish the incumbent) in recession times is noteworthy; moreso, to my mind, is that coast to coast, in three diferent provinces, including the second and thrid most populous, in two very urban ridings, the Liberal Party of Canada has not managed one second place finish. To be fair, this was not unanticipated, but still, what judgement is this on the Natural Governing Party, the party that still thinks all it needs to do is convince Canadians how foolish they were to vote for the other guy to return to power--I ask you....?
