250...Go Away Bob Rae

Sri Lanka said "hi" and "bye" to Bob Rae in the same breath yesterday.

Reuters reports that the Sri Lankan government felt the Liberal Party's foreign-affairs critic was pro Tamil Tigers, the separatist movement in the country. Mr. Rae said Sri Lanka's government had reached "ill-conceived and defamatory conclusions about me," and said his record showed he had spoken out against the Tigers during his prior involvement in the peace process.

Mr. Rae said he was stopped on Tuesday night when he reached the immigration counter in the company of two Canadian High Commission officials. "The government of Sri Lanka knew my views, and granted me a visa," Mr. Rae said in an e-mailed statement. "I have flown a very long way only to be told the door is firmly shut."

Being rejected by the Sri Lankan's puts Mr. Rae in good company. Recently it rejected Britain's attempt to send a special envoy to the conflict and refused to grant Sweden's foreign minister entry in the closing stages of the war.

Could have been worse; they could have let Mr. Rae in and then thrown him in jail, eh?

  1. Well, I'd daresay it's about time to boot Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Canada the fuck out of our country.

It's pretty clear they don't want to associate diplomatically with Canada in good faith.

  2. your country is full of terrorist supporters. It's sad but ignoring it is also a way of supporting it. It is a deadly thing you breed. One day you will understand it
