3551...NHL Meet The NFL

Back in the day, 1970 I believe, 17 starting NFL quarterbacks were sent to the hospital and the disabled list the first Sunday of the season.

It happened coz back in those days defensive linemen were allowed to take three steps and cream the QB after he got rid of the ball. That Sunday changed all that. The NFL realized that the fans don't tune in to the games to see the stars, the QBs, get killed repeatedly. So the league changed the rules and made it a big no no to destroy their moneymakers when they were at their most vulnerable. Sure there were dissenters, Don Cherrys if you will. One of them, Pittsburgh linebacker Jack Ham, suggested that perhaps they should put QBs in dresses. Didn't happen.

The NHL should copy the NFL and just ban head shots. The greatest player in the world of hockey, Sidney Crosby, is in some serious bad shape and may not play this season or, heaven forbid, ever.

Man up Gary Bettman.
