294...It Is Now Official

Phil Jackson is the both the greatest and winningest coach in National Basketball Association history.

Mr. Jackson, the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers has just this minute won his tenth title as an NBA coach to surpass Red Auerbach of the Boston Celtics and is the only man with rings for both thumbs.

  1. Some will say that Zen Phil was the beneficiary of having the likes of Jordan, Shaq and Kobe on his teams...but I don't buy it. Clevland has Lebron, they haven't won it yet, Denver has Mello, Philly had the answer for many years....the Knicks couldn't win a title with Patrick Ewing for gawdsakes.

Of course a championship team needs star players, but in of itself that's not enough. Jackson's contributions should not be diminished because of the talented players under his charge...other teams have talent in spades as well yet never seem to win the big one.

  2. I could not have said it better, Gordie.

From the lowest levels of pick up basketball to the highest in the NBA it is the great teams that win, not the teams with the greatest players.

Phil has won as a player, as a minor league coach in Albany and with two different organizations in the NBA.

    Winning follows him around.

  3. Are you guys kidding me????????? What ball are you watching??

"Cleveland has Lebron.." (cue the crickets) Don't tell me Dan that you (yes you) could not have won a few rings as a coach during the Jordan Era. I'm not taking anything away from Phil (not all of it) but players play nad coaches coach.

  4. Doug Collins didn't win with Jordan and the Bulls, what'shisname didn't win with Jordan and the Wizards and if memory serves me, Carolina won coz Georgetown's Fred Brown panicked and passed to the wrong team.

Phil is the greatest coach ever, ever, ever.
