Here is the top of Elizabeth Thompson's column in this morning's Ottawa Sun:
A series of events that led to civil servants being pressured to review a proposal from Rahim Jaffer began with the former Conservative MP calling cabinet minister Christian Paradis at home on his cellphone, Paradis revealed Wednesday.
However, Paradis denies that Jaffer had any special access to him or any special influence with his staff or his department.
But while Paradis said many Canadians can reach him on his cellphone, when asked, he refused to give out the number.
In an interview after appearing before a parliamentary committee, Paradis said Jaffer called him at home one evening in August 2009 to talk to the then public works minister about an idea to put solar panels on the roofs of federal government buildings.
"I said call my office and see about a meeting with public servants," Paradis recalled, pointing out he told Jaffer any project would have to go through public tender.
I love the fact that Mr. Paradis says many of us can reach him at home but then won't give out the number. By many he means those who are in with the in crowd.
More things that make one wonder why Canadians want to give this gang a majority.
