2411...Appealing To Their Base

Spend a billion, save a million, come out smelling like a f'ing rose.

Dat be duh Tories.

CTV News reports the Conservative Government will introduce legislation today to scrap old age benefits for prisoners. Inmates aged 65 and older are losing their old-age benefits.

Picking on the weak, the poor, the unloved: It's the Stephen Harper way.

It’s believed the changes would affect 400 inmates in federal prisons, and 600 others in provincial institutions.

The Conservatives say the legislation will save $10 million a year by cutting old-age benefits for older inmates.

BTW, a billion dollars for a three day wankfest, no problem.

Old codger stuck in jail wants to buy a book to read in his cell, problem.

  1. So what happens when the senior prisoner (or any prisoner) gets out of jail? No savings. No menial cash around. Return to life of crime? No-one will hire them.

Harper just loves appealing to the basest of human instincts... In this case, revenge. Guess he never read anything by any great world leaders (or actually learned anything)...

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" (Gandhi).

The killing of pensions for prisoners - who like them, or not - earned the pensions/benefits during their non-criminal years (while working), is NOT something that should be taken away. Even if you don't believe they deserve them, the funds do help prevent returns to "the life"/prison. Of course idiots who don't understand (or like) science and legal experts would never understand the logic of rehabilitation...

  2. Same old mantra; "We need to fight the reasons behind crime". Chretien and Martin had long, solid majorities to resolve all this and this pension policy is just another of their legacy.
The Taxpayers wanted it gone so it's gone.

Maybe they can get a job with Alphonso Gagliano
