As reported in every sports section and on every sports show in the world of NAFTA dog lover Michael Vick signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles that will pay him a bit less than 10 million if he completes the contract.
None of the monies are guaranteed but it is a nice spot for Mr. Vick, who is coming off a multi year lay off that included jail time for being a real nasty boy. He will back up Donovan McNabb, who has led the Eagles to a zillion NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl during his time in the City of Brotherly Love.
As of noon today, Friday August 14th, reader feedback in the Philly paper of record, the Philadelphia Inquirer, is running about 47 per cent in favour of the move and 53 against.
Look, the man totally f'd up, did his time, let's move on.

670...Les Paul Just Died
It is being reported by various sources that one of the most important figures in the post World War Two explosion of music, Les Paul, died minutes ago in White Plains, New York.
He was 94.
Along with his second wife, Mary Ford, Mr. Paul was one of the biggest stars in music in the early fifties. He sold over ten million records but his biggest contribution was as an inspired musical tinkerer. He was the virtual inventor of multi track recording and introduced the now routine concept of over dubbing.
He didn't invent the solid body electric guitar but he may as well have. He did more to make it popular than any other player and was the first guitarist to exploit such possibilities offered by electrification as feedback and note bending.

Unlike its rival blog, City Holler, ZeroMeansZero has survived the predicted exoneration of His Worship and continues providing much needed discourse in a city that has little.
The major complaint that I have with this site is the fact that virtually everyone signs themselves as Anonymous.

667...Gays And B'nai Brith Knock Heads
It is Pride Week in Montreal [don't get me started] and the big parade is this Sunday.
Headline in today's Montreal Gazette emphatically states Anti-Israel agitators trying to 'hijack' Gay Parade: B'Nai Brith.
Here is the sitch. The Q-Team is marching in the Pride Montreal parade and their message is Israeli apartheid has to end. Ever the champion of free speech, Frank Dimant, the VP in charge of being pissed off at stuff for B'nai Brith says that the parade is no place for politics stating that the days of politicized marches are a thing of the past.
Q-Team spokesperson Leila Pourtvas, a Canadian of Iranian ancestry, replies that being queer is political in and of itself and that bringing a political issue to the table is not meant to hijack a parade but merely to increase awareness.
There was a similar fuss at this year's Toronto Pride, funded in part by the benevolence of Stephen Harper's Conservatives, but Queers Against Israeli Apartheid were allowed to march despite the demands by B'nai Brith that they not be allowed to do so.

666...Inside Baseball
In yesterday's Globe and Mail Adam Radwanski warns the Liberals against, my turn of a phrase here, playing too much inside baseball this political cycle.
By that term I mean to say that I interpret Mr. Radwanski's article, headlined Perception Versus Reality, to mean that the Liberal Party of Canada has to be careful in how it perceives that it is perceived by the electorate. On Parliament Hill and in Toronto, where a ton of Liberal MPs come from, the Tories are thought of as uber partisan, off putting and ineffective. To a sentient person it is a no brainer who to support at the ballot box next time out. That is the folly of playing inside baseball. Sure this may be the reality but the fact of the matter is Canadians, especially those off the Hill, don't pay that close attention to the day to day activities in government and are not driinking the same Kool Aid as members of the Big Red Machine.
