973...PM Harper Sets Election Date Of Nov 9th

The above headline is, of course, a tease.

The elections that will be held across Canada will only be held in four ridings, two in La Belle, one in B. C. and one in Nova Scotia.

The Canadian Press reports that the Tories may get shut out in all four by elections. The B. C. riding is a NDP seat in the Vancouver area, the two Quebec seats are strong for the BQ. The last seat, in Nova Scotia, was held by maverick Bill Casey, a Tory who split with the party and sat as an independent.

838...BTW

If the powers that be in all parties in Canada would just make the trek to the Tim Horton's in their neck of the woods they wood find that, rhetoric aside, Canadians don't want an election.

And you don't even have to go out side the Ottawa version of the Beltway, which is the Queensway/417.

The Tim's six blocks from the Hill at Gloucester and Bank is a fount of normal people who don't want a election.

Sometimes smart people think way too much, eh?

According to, among others, the Canadian Press, the vote that could decide whether or not Canadians have an election this fall, comes down Friday.

666...Inside Baseball

In yesterday's Globe and Mail Adam Radwanski warns the Liberals against, my turn of a phrase here, playing too much inside baseball this political cycle.

By that term I mean to say that I interpret Mr. Radwanski's article, headlined Perception Versus Reality, to mean that the Liberal Party of Canada has to be careful in how it perceives that it is perceived by the electorate. On Parliament Hill and in Toronto, where a ton of Liberal MPs come from, the Tories are thought of as uber partisan, off putting and ineffective. To a sentient person it is a no brainer who to support at the ballot box next time out. That is the folly of playing inside baseball. Sure this may be the reality but the fact of the matter is Canadians, especially those off the Hill, don't pay that close attention to the day to day activities in government and are not driinking the same Kool Aid as members of the Big Red Machine.

278...Tom Kennedy, The New Mike Duffy, But Better

Short, high body mass index and letting people talk over each other.

Still, a pretty cool show, on CTVNewsnet at 5 pm eastern. Tom Kennedy is more aggressive than Mike Duffy was and the show is a nice change of pace.

Today's opening topic, doh, "Should Landed Immigrants be given the right to vote?"

This is an initiative of Mayor David Miller of Toronto who Wednesday night threw his support behind a movement to extend the right to vote in Toronto municipal elections to non-citizens.

Uh, no.

I am so pro immigrant, we need more, not less but let's not get ahead of ourselves, the waiting period between showing up in our country, become Landed and becoming a full Citizen is fair. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Capeche?
