This week's The Charlatan, the Carleton University paper, has a story about the trainwreck that is the Carleton University cheerleading squad.
The team which, and I am a fan of the sport, is the worst cheerleading team in the history of collegiate sports and a bit clued out to boot. In fact they don't even go to games any more.
While the Carleton Ravens were playing the St. John's Red Storm earlier this month the cheerleading team took a pass on cheering for their school's national championship basketball team to run a fundraising car wash.
According to The Charlatan reporter Michael Sawires they have had many car washes over the summer and their most successful one was on September 20th of this year. They raised more than 700$ washing over 200 cars.
That works out to 3$ and change a car wash.
I guess they are as good as washing cars as they are at cheering for their school.

417...Sleepless In Seattle; Clueless In Ottawa
The Carleton University newspaper, The Charlatan, reports in its latest birdcage liner that the idiot savants [wait, that is one too many words] who run Ottawa have decided that the price of bus tickets will go up 15 per cent today, July 1st.
In his Canada Day address to the nation, uber lefty Alex Cullen, the transit committee chair and city councillor, a man who has never actually seen the inside of a city bus but has heard many good things about them, justified the huge raise by saying that "...poor people have enough money..." May be not an exact quote but that is the gist of it.
Lauren Fogazzi goes on to quote U of K undergrad Nadia Rehman who makes the valid point that "The fare increase shows the true character of OC Transpo...greedy and deceitful..."
Not to mention public relations wizards.

26...Thursday morning on 93.1CKCU
I was great today, Wednesday, but I am going to be even better tomorrow!!!
Tomorrow, Thursday, I, the World Famous Dan Shields, am on 93.1CKCU from 8 to 9 30 in da morning and for the first 45 I will be talking with Simon Martin from The Charlatan, mostly about basketball I would think what with the Canadian University championships happening this weekend out in Kanata at ScotiaBank Place.
Then for the last 45 I will be talking with humanist David Burton who is the director of the Humanist Association of Ottawa. They be the folks who are challenging Ottawa city council's refusal to take money to run ads on cash strapped OC Transpo [allegedly cash strapped; we had a strike, about money, eh?] vehicles that say "There is probably no God now stop worrying and enjoy life."
This should be a no brainer; take their friggin' money, but, this being the rudderless ship that is Ottawa, of course it will have to be, at great cost to the taxpayer, well over thought and overwrought.
Beauty.
