Socialized medicine, the kind that we have in Canada, is uncaring.
Case in point from Duncan, British Columbia. The Calgary Herald ran a story about a dude's body being found in the parking lot of the Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan. Buddy had been waiting so long for a doctor that he up and died and was decomposing before they called his name for service. Or may be he just up and died before he went into the hospital. Either way, let's blame socialized medicine.
Thank you Rush Limbaugh.

599...Those Who Forget History
May not recall that the torment that the Americans are going through right now re universal health care, and, if memory serves, they are the only nation in the first world that doesn't have universal health care, is the same sort of hand wringing that we went through in Saskatchewan when universal health care was first introduced about a half century ago.
Doctors threatening to quit, work slowdowns, fear were all part of the introduction of the debate here and are part of the debate there.
Ultimately it is the fear of the unknown that is driving the anti universal health care side of the debate. Interestingly, as flawed as health care is in Canada, it is still pretty good and, on a per capita level, cheaper than the maze of HMO's, PPO's and private insurance that covers only about 80 per cent of Americans.
I was listening to Rush Limbaugh on the Excellence In Broadcasting network yesterday and he was making the [apparently horrible] point that in Canada a lot of doctors are foreign born and trained. OMG, no. Wait, OMG, yes. In my life I have had four regular doctors, and three of them were foreign types. Two were Scots, one was Canuckistanian and my present doctor, well, I don't know. He does speak brokenederd english so I am pretty certain he is from a foreign land but, and call Rush and clue him in on this, I don't care. He fixes what ails me.
Mr. Limbaugh also said that in Canada the government interferes with your health care and picks the doctor for you. Like, uh, doh, no. I will grant that finding a doctor or clinic in this town, Ottawa, is not the easiest thing to do, but I get to choose and, I suppose, the doctor gets to choose who he wants to treat also.
Universal health care is also not a socialist, although it started on this country in socialist Saskatchewan, plot. In fact, Rush, Canada has a Conservative government, France is pretty right wing and the Conservatives take turns with Labour in running the United Kingdom. Universal health care has moved well beyond the realm of ideology and into the realm of sensible economics. It may be counter intuitive to navel gazing, mouth breathing, non thinking right wing ideologues like Mr. Limbaugh but universal health care is actually cost effective, not just on a micro level but also on a macro level.

418...Please Talk Rush Off The Ledge
Rush Limbaugh that is.
I think it is cool that the United States has all these truly national radio talkers, guys like Jim Rome, Glenn Beck and Rush but Lordy, Lordy, Rush may be back on the Oxy's.
To review, Obama has been President Obama for less than six months; he has just got the hang of working the remote on the big TV in the Oval Office and where the cool food is stashed in the kitchen yet Mr. Limbaugh has him, Mr. President, lining himself up for a change in the Constitution that will allow him to run for a third term. Again, he is barely 10 per cent into the first term.
Newsmax.com quotes his Rushness as saying “You have to wonder if Obama is just trying to lay a foundation for not being a hypocrite when he tries to serve beyond 2016. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in the next number of years there is a move on the 22nd Amendment.”
Oy vey.

324...Tragedy In The Air
From 77WABC, New York, Rush Limbaugh's home station, this breaking news:
WFDS
A Continental Airlines jet whose pilot died in mid flight over the Atlantic has landed safely at Newark Liberty International Airport. The pilot died while on a flight from Brussels to Newark; the first officers landed the aircraft with 247 people on board. The 61-year-old pilot was reportedly based in Newark and died of natural causes.
Amazing, eh?

158...Thought Police Strike Again; Poor Stephane
The Canadian Standards Broadcast Council, your Thought Police in action, see Post 150 for more on these National Socialists' work, have sanctimoniously decided, Juliet O'Neill reports in this mornings' National Post, that "CTV was unfair and unethical when it broadcast outtakes of an interview with then-Liberal leader Stephane Dion, who repeatedly did not understand a question, during the election campaign last fall..."
Uh, and I am wearing a Stephane Dion hat as I write this, may be CTV was being unfair and may be their ethics were questionable but, so what? To remind you, Steve Murphy, anchor at ATV Halifax, asked-the-man-who-would-have-been-so-much-better-as-Prime-Minister-than-the-guy-we-have-now "If you were prime minister now, what would you have done about the economy and this crisis that Mr. Harper has not done?"
Mr. Dion had a brain pause and then another and then another and it was all on tape and the tape made it to the broadcast waves. End of story.
One would think. But it only takes one complaint to get the CSBC Anti Free Speech Squad to go into action.
Again the CSBC has decided that they are going to decide what is funny, what is satire, what is right in this country.
They are a cancer and anti free speech. You have to decide, do you want to live in a country, and we are perilously close to living there, where all speech is carefully constructed as so not to offend? Or do you want to live in a country with freedom? Free speech is there, or should be there, to defend those that colour outside the lines. And certainly someone who asks a question as benign as the one Mr. Murphy asked should not be chastised. One would think.
Imagine how much broader the discourse in this country would be with more voices, especially on the local levels, like they have in that country below us. Left, right and center. Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Keith Olbermann, Drew Lane, Jay Severin, Sean Hannity, John Stewart, Steven Colbert, Allan Colmes, Mancow Muller and on and on and on. In this country, because of self righteous groups like the CSBC, freedom of expression on air is virtually non existent and none of the above would be able to work the way they do, which is often in an outrageous manner.
Voltaire said "Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write".
The CSBC takes a different tact.
Bullies.

154...How Insane Is Steven Harper?
First off, I like the United States, most Americans, even Rush Limbaugh has his moments.
But, there is a lot of stuff wrong with the States and one of the big things wrong with the US of A is mandatory sentencing. Judges should be given discretion; the law in my view should not be a club to hammer people with. Mandatory sentencing laws, like the ones in respect to marijuana that have passed second reading in the House of Commons, repute said discretion.
Sadly, my party, the Liberal Party of Canada, is going to support said laws because they don't want to seem soft on crime.
Please, explain to me how sending a university freshman to jail for a year for growing [most likely ineptly] a pot plant in his closet makes one a crime fighter?
In fact it is the opposite; if people grow their own then they won't be buying, and supporting financially, from the bigger boys, i.e. Les Hells, who allegedly are involved in major grow operations and have franchised their distribution networks down to the street and bar level dealers.
Time to take a stand Mikey I.
