883...In Conversation: Francois Gourd

I had the opportunity to talk with Francois Gourd, the leader of the Neo Rhino Party, a renaissance as it were of the old Rhino Party. The Rhinos were and the Neo Rhinos are parties that take the piss out of the Canadian political process for sure.

But, try as he may to not be serious, Mr. Gourd, who has run unsuccessfully for a seat in Ottawa on two occasions, once getting almost fifteen hundred votes, the second time achieving less than ten per cent of those votes, made a couple of pretty interesting points in our convo yesterday.

First off, in addressing the situation of Quebec, separation and Canadian unity, Mr. Gourd suggested that all provinces separate and we run our country like the European Economic Community. Food for thought.

Secondly he wants Quebec to, upon the demise of Fidel Castro's regime in Cuba, to absorb, annex, whatever, Cuba. It's not Florida, but it is sunny and Quebeckers would adapt especially if Cuba was Quebec Sud. More food for thought.

Sometimes the wisest man is the one playing the fool, eh?

460...Tonya Harding Not Arrested In Drug Sweep

Fellow 1990's skating star Nicole Bobek was though. Ms. Bobek won the U.S. championship in 1995 and the bronze medal at the World Championships that same year.

A difficult teenager, now at age 31, Miss Bobek is in trouble that stretches far beyond being labeled a difficult teenager. According to an Associated Press report, she has been charged with being part of a drug ring in northern New Jersey. Miss Bobek, who has homes in New York and Jupiter, Fla., was arrested in Florida last week.

The charge is conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County.

She is one of 20 picked up in the sweep and if convicted she faces 10 years in prison.

420...Tasers And Pork Chops In The News

Slow news day but this is a cool story from WPTV.com in La Belle Sud. It seems that the Boynton Beach police had to tase Calvin Wallace three times to get his attention early this morning after they pulled him over in the Florida burgh.

When they searched his car they found a suspicious powdery substance and Mr. Wallace was charged with drug trafficking for allegedly having 54.3 grams of MDMA, used to make the drug ecstasy; he told officers that the powder was "flour for my porkchops."

They certainly would be happy, dancing and hugging chops for true.

382...Scott Tribe, Vernor's, Good Taste

Scott Tribe makes the case for Vernor's ginger ale being the finest ginger ale in the world.

Scott Tribe is right.

Wikipedia states that "Vernors is the oldest surviving ginger ale sold in the United States...[dating back to] 1866."

It is primarily available in Detroit, Ohio, Michigan, Chicago, Southern Ontario and Florida but, for example, in Ottawa, Ontario, Farm Boy carries it.

The finest.

287...The Constitution Comes Through Again

Sipping my morning coffee and flipping through the South Florida Sun Sentinel and I come across this timely article on the practical early 21st century application of the Constitiution of the United States of America.

In this case Palm Beach County Judge Laura Johnson used the document to overturn Riviera Beach's saggy pants ordinance which proscribed wearing pants below the waist exposing skin or underwear.

As if.

A referendum endorsing the ban, a ban that would warm the heart of my colleague tic, was supported by 72 per cent of city voters in March of last year and the city started enforcement eleven months ago. City spokesman Rose Anne Brown said less than 20 people wear caught after the ordinance, which carried fines up to 300$, was promulgated.

In a related story, belt sales reached record levels during the second half of 2008 in Riviera Beach, Florida.

75...Always Wear A Condom

Travis Henry.

If you are an NFL fan, you probably know the name; he was a Pro Bowl running back out Florida who played college for Tennessee and was a second round draft choice in 2001.

His hobby was making babies.

Lots of them.

He made Sean Kemp look like Pope Benedict in that department.

Rough numbers, 11 [eleven] kids from 12 [twelve] women. Or may be it is 12 from 11, gets a bit fuzzy when you hit the double digits.

Amazingly, although he made serious bank as an NFL star, he has fallen a bit behind on his child support, resulting in jail time, garnishments and a career change.

The career change is what got Mr. Henry in today's Ottawa Sun. After getting released from his 22.5 million contract [as per usual, nothing in the NFL is guaranteed] with the Denver Broncos last summer, Mr. Henry decided to sell cocaine and marijuana.

He was an All American running back; obviously did not have too much trouble with the ladies but; selling coke and pot, not so successful.

Subsequent to his arrest last October, Mr. Henry made a plea agreement Tuesday that comprises of a mandatory 10-year sentence along with approximately $4 million dollars in fines.

Always wear a condom.
