So says Tom Brodbeck in this morning's Winnipeg Sun.
Mr. Brodbeck says that "The argument Prime Minister Stephen Harper was 'forced' by the opposition to go deep into deficit is not only a cop-out, it's patently untrue."
He then opines that "I keep hearing from Tory faithful that Harper had no choice but to sink Canada deep into the glue with his 'stimulus' package -- a multi-billion dollar spending orgy that would have made former prime minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau proud."
Mr. Brodbeck points out that the economy is going to recover with or without Tory meddling and the fact is that very little of the money allegedly injected into the economy will be in place before the whole world, as in planet earth, recovers economically.
"The cost of putting the country this deep into debt far outweighs any minor benefits this stimulus package will provide."
Well put Mr. Brodbeck, well put.
"This thing is a disaster. And the Harper government is 100% responsible for it."

Yet the NDP and the Liberals were SCREAMING bloody murder unless we injected all that seemingly unneeded stimulus. It was the whole reason for teh coalition. They didn't think Harper would have put any extra cash into it if it wasn't for their little coup.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you wrote about it at the time, but I but you would have joined the chorus of critics had he not spent an additional dime on infrastructure.
The Liberals are massive hypocrites. From one side of their mouth they say there is not enough stimulus, and then from the other they agree with guys like Brodbeck.
You can't have it both ways.
