From CFRA comes this:
"Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says the Federal Government is not in the 'forgiveness business.'"
And why should they be, eh? Mr. Toews has introduced new legislation that would do away with pardons for criminals and replace them with harder-to-get “record suspensions.”
Under the legislation, criminals convicted of sex crimes against children or those with three or more serious convictions won’t be allowed to apply for a pardon from the National Parole Board.
The Conservative Government proposed that people convicted of minor crimes will have to wait five years before applying for a record suspension. Those guilty of more serious crimes will have to wait 10 years.
The John Howard Society calls the changes a rush to judgment. Executive Director Craig Jones says there may be a case for a review of pardons and parole, but it should be done slowly by a panel of experts.
What Mr. Toews is saying is if you get convicted of a crime you are society's toast. Therefore I think we should utilize Baffin Island as a home for those who have committed crimes. Uh, those who have committed crimes and been convicted, so that gets Rahim Jaffer off the hook.

3 or more serious offenses or sex offense against child seem like non pardonable situations. If i was a crime victim or a family member of a sexually abused or assaulted child I might take offense to your courage and your convictions. Lets give the victims the final say on this one. what you think dan.
