2225...This Is A Law That Might Work

The Tories are going to stiffen the fraud laws; fraud laws are like drink driving laws.

The people who break them are usually from the class, middle or upper, that is terrified of going to jail.

Tightening of drink driving laws has been proved to lessen the carnage on the roads caused by those who get a wee bit too tight and then go for a cruise.

As Ann Sutherland writes in today's Montreal Gazette "It's too late for their specific cases, but victims of ruinous financial scams gathered together in downtown Montreal yesterday to support the federal government's plan to finally get tougher on white-collar crime. Justice Minister Robert Nicholson and MP Christian Paradis were in town to meet with victim's groups from the Earl Jones, Mount Real and Norshield debacles and announce that the Tories will be re-introducing a crime bill that was scuttled when the prime minister prorogued government for two months in December."

What the Stephen Harpers are going to do is intro a new bill, tabled in the House of Commons simultaneously with the announcement, that is called "Standing Up for Victims of White-Collar Crime Act" and replaces the previous Bill C-52, pretty much the same as too, which had passed two readings before Parliament was adjourned.

Montreal is, by the way, a pretty serious town when it comes to perpetuating Ponzi schemes and phone frauds.
