2106...Some Poor Schmuck Gets Punished

For being a good hockey player.

That would be the lad who is going to be drafted first in the NHL draft.

His punishment? He will have to play in Edmonton, a city Mordecai Richler described as looking like a used building lot, and play for the Oilers, who, by virtue of their suckage, will be picking first overall in this year's draft.

CBC.ca reports that the Oilers "...will become the first Canadian team to pick first since the Ottawa Senators selected defenceman Chris Phillips in 1996."

On the plus side for the fellow assigned to the Edmontons the town does have a kick ass mall and they do spend half their time on the road.

  1. But on the upside, a good hockey player gets to play in Boston!
