Theophilos Argitis of Bloomberg News reports that "Konrad von Finckenstein, Canada's broadcast and telecommunications regulator, will urge lawmakers to keep in place rules that bar foreigners from owning majority stakes in companies such as BCE Inc. and Telus Corp., people familiar with his planned presentation this week said."
Open skies in my view is the only way to serve Canada and Canadians both in terms of our wallets and our culture.
Quotas that we have at all stuff that the CRTC regs is not helping Canucks especially those living outside of big centres such as Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Van etc. Spend time in a city like Pembroke, 90 minutes west of The Hill if you don't believe me. Cellphone reception is sporadic, ditto mobile Internet, local TV is non existent and radio is but a few stations.
Mr. von Finckenstein and his crew would be well advised to take a look at what the FCC does and mirror it.
If it is broke, fix it.
It is broke.
