Not a good plan but especially if you steal something that licks.
For example, a dog.
Megan Gillis of the Ottawa Sun has an example of such circumstance. Richard Marcel Dore got tossed in jail for 90 days last week for stealing a dog for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day. What our hero did was go into Pet World at Carlingwood in Ottawa and pick out a puppy as a Valentine's Day gift for his beloved. Sadly, and this is where the story goes wrong for Mr. Dore, the Boston Terrier Bulldog mix cost 1000.00 dollars which he did not have at the exact time he decided on said dog. When he went into the store the next day the scoundrels that run Pet World had sold the pooch.
As he told a probation officer "They did me wrong---they sold the dog." See, not his fault.
Since it was not his fault Mr. Dore felt compelled to right that wrong by returning at night and doing a smash and grab. The smash was the store's rear window. The grab was the two month old puppy.
Amazingly Judge Celynne Dorval did not see the wronged party as being Mr. Dore and gave him 90 days and told him to pay 7oo bones for the window he broke plus a year of probation.
