Interesting by election result in the most conservative city in Canada, Calgary, yesterday.
Adam Daifallah, National Post writer posts a story from the southern Alberta metropolis recording the victory of Wildrose Alliance's Paul Hinman, winning in a riding held by the Alberta Conservatives for 38 years. The year they took the seat was the year they took power in Alberta, power they have not relinquished.
Mr. Daifallah seems to think that this win by the Wildrose Alliance may be the crack in the wall that will bring down the Conservative government.

ReplyDeleteWe can hope.
Not so fast Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteThe reason the Wildrose Alliance is succeeding is because the Conservatives are not c o n s e r v a t i v e enough for Albertans.
Secondly, if one checks one's history of Alberta, the Conservatives took over from the Social Credit for the very same reason.
The Social Credit had become middle of the roadish, by Alberta standards a faux pas in the extremis then and now.

Alberta won't be facing another election for two years.
ReplyDeleteThat's either a lot of time for the Wildrose Alliance to build on its momentum, or a lot of time for them to lose ground.
The next two years are absolutely crucial for that party.
