Dissed a bit but happy.
CFRA carries a story of a new survey suggests aboriginal people living in Canada’s cities are generally happy.
The Urban Aboriginal Peoples Survey by the Environics Institute shows aboriginals in urban centres are proud of their heritage, want to go to school, get a new job, own a home and raise healthy children.
But they fear non-aboriginals see them as lazy, stupid and addicted to drugs and alcohol.
The survey was based on personal interviews with 26-hundred aboriginal Canadians in 11 cities between March and October 2009.
Environics Institute says surprises in the survey include most urban aboriginals consider the city they live in their home, have no desire to move back to their hometown or reserve, and are not at all that worried about losing their cultural identity.
