2029...The Knives Are Out For The Cat

Well she must be a cat, Helena Guergis that is, coz she has a lot of lives.

Today's knife out is from the Toronto Star where today's editorial opines that she is ready for the high jump:

If there was ever any doubt about Helena Guergis' ability to serve as
a federal cabinet minister, her latest pratfall should settle the question.
Even her long-standing supporters must be grimacing.

A sympathetic observer might have attributed her embarrassing meltdown at
the Charlottetown airport - where she subjected security staff to a ministerial
temper tantrum and called Prince Edward Island a "hell hole" - as the
regrettable result of stress and exhaustion. Others might even have accepted
Guergis' claim that she was in the dark about a staffer who wrote letters to
the editor fawning over her. But the broader letter-writing campaign that has
now come to light smacks of a co-ordinated effort.

The campaign involved Guergis staffers and associates, and even the mother
of an assistant, none of whom revealed their links to the Conservative minister
whom they were so intent on praising in the letters. The opposition Liberals
have called it a "serial abuse of the public trust," and it is hard to argue
with that assessment.

If Guergis has abused the public trust, it is hard to see how she can retain
the trust of Prime Minister Stephen *Harper* and carry on as the minister
responsible for the status of women, albeit a low-priority portfolio for this
government. There is surely someone in the back benches of *Harper*'s caucus who
would be less embarrassing to his government.

Well, Mr. Harper?

  1. There is an entire OPs team at Con HQ that carries on "black ops" like this... They spend their time - also - collecting dirt on the other parties' and members (not just elected ones)... Someone (nudge, nudge) needs to talk to a disgruntled worker there...

  2. I think there is a big push from inside the HarperCons to get Geurgis to fall on her sword. If she resigns, it will be her choice and Harper can call the matter closed.

If he fires her, it will be apparent that he made a mistake promoting her to Cabinet and it will be on him.

The Cons will be pumping up their media outlets to call for her resignation.

Personally, I wish she would stay on- she is a gift that keeps on giving.
