Last night, near the end of the Canada/Slovakia game; OMFG.
His election plans are verily contingent on the Canucks getting the Gold. I am sure like most of us in Canuckistan he felt it was in the bag when Canada was up 3/0 in the middle of the third.
And then.
The wheels.
Fell off.
Not all of them though.
The dream is still alive, for both Canada's Olympic team and the Stephen Harpers.

You must think Canadians are stupid.
ReplyDeleteWFDS WTF
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you and your American Liberal Leader Ignatieaf are hoping that the United States beats Canada so Harper and most patriotic Canadians will lose our dream of Canada winning the gold medal?
Are you Liberals that pathetic, is politics everything for your corrupt Liberal party?
Steve
Uh, say what?
ReplyDeleteWFDS
Dan, I'm not entirely sure that should Team Canada win gold Harper will orchestrate his own demise and then drop the writ on the public. The polls are showing both parties within the margin of error, so it's anyone's game.
ReplyDeleteG8 and G20 meetings in June make for poor electioneering in April/May and it's unlikely he'd call an election when the house is in recess for the summer. That puts us in position for another October/November election of this year. That's, of course, barring any unforseen events (an Olympic gold medal for Team Canada tomorrow) that should propel Team Harper to 35+ popularity - coupled with a decrease in Liberal popularity (which the latest EKOS did not show).
I doubt a gold in Hockey will make Harper more popular. Maybe before prorogation I'd have thought that, but not know. Not with the CPC having a majority of Senators in the Red Chamber, not without a real plan to deal with the economy, and certainly not while Jack is in cancer recovery.
It's a false dichotomy to think that we can either have a Liberal minority government or a Gold in Men's Hockey. It's possible for us to have our cake and eat it too!
BTW to Anon and Steve, you guys should check your tin-foil hats at the door.
ReplyDeleteThe Slovaks should have figured the Canadians out sooner and thed Canadians would not have had such a good time winning, it they could.
ReplyDeleteIt will not be so easy against the US.
I don't really buy Canadians voting for Harper because Canadians win the men’s hockey game. Also if Harper called an election, I think it would remind Canadians of his rogue pro and he would once again face a backlash.
ReplyDeleteAs for the person who called the Liberals corrupt, this is for you; try Grant Devine in Saskatchewan. I lived in Saskatchewan during that time and Grant Devine's government truly was awful and corrupt. I would also o like to remind you of the IN and Out scandal, the Chuck Cadman affair, and the possible cover up of torture of Afghan detainees and these are just the possible scandals that we know about. How's that for corruption.
And let me be clear on something. I will be cheering for Canada's men's hockey team tomorrow just as I cheered for the woman's hockey team on Thursday. Don't you dare accuse me or anybody else of being unpatriotic. Sen. Mike Duffy has tried to use the Olympic games that are supposed to unite Canadians as fund raising point of his party. Sounds to me that politics is everything for assholes like Mike Duffy and the corrupt Conservative Party.
