Saw this in the Montreal Gazette over coffee at Second Cup this morning and it makes so much sense that it will never happen.
L. Ian MacDonald writes the truth, the truth being that the Liberals are strong federally in 514 and 450 [Montreal] and the Tories in 418 [Quebec City].
What Mr. MacDonald proposes is that the two fed parties have a non aggression act. Tories get La Capitale and Team Red gets Montreal and the 'burbs. Run a full slate but concentrate manpower and money on the areas that are each teams strengths.
This would drive the Bloc insane.

ReplyDeleteCharest has no time now for Harper and will support the Ignatieff Libs.
Harper and Prentice blew it.
Um, that's already been the norm of the last two elections, in fact I'd say the Tories put in much more effort in the Montreal area than the Libs did in the 418. We hate the Bloc and all, but facts are facts, Harper WOULD have a majority right now were it now for them. You can take Mr. MacDonald's motivations right from there. EVERYTHING he writes is about boosting the Tory seat count, nothing more.
ReplyDeleteHaha, it is true, but the Conservatives would never agree to it, let alone the Liberals. Besides - 418 has a history of waffling depending upon where the federal leader falls. With Ignatieff in charge, someone who is a little more sympathetic to Quebec's existential angst, Quebec City wouldn't be out of the Liberal's reach, or at least not a couple of ridings.
