2417...Field Of Dreams; Field Of Schemes

With this Lansdowne Park thingy going down in your Capital, with your dollars at stake, yes that is you in Moose Jaw and Halifax and Whitehorse I am talking to, I thought it to be a good time to remind you that you can keep up with the stadium shenanigans all across Canada and the United States through http://www.fieldofschemes.com/.

They have a great headline on the site currently regarding Ottawa's new stadia:

Ottawa park design to be full of generic storefonts, computer-rendered people

Kinda cute, doncha think?

Speaking of cute, the actual field of dreams, from the Kevin Costner flick Field Of Dreams, is up for sale. Thaindian News, yes it is that big a story, reports that "...it will sell for a stated amount of $5.4 million. It has been estimated that close to 65,000 people visit this site every year. The field is located near Dyersville in Iowa and will go up for sale along with its farm buildings, its two souvenir stands and the baseball field and farmhouse that was supposedly used in a Hollywood film of the 1980s. Apparently it was the movie that made the site even more popular.

The owners of the baseball field Don and Becky Lansing have appointed Ken Sanders as the real estate consultant in order to draw more customers to the sale. It has also been reported that the new owners of the place can use the property including the baseball field according to their own free will, no restrictions will be imposed on the new residents of the Field of Dreams. However the piece of land housing the Field of Dreams is zoned agricultural, which means that anybody who wants to construct a hotel or any other building on the land will have to seek the permission of the officials in the Dubuque County."

Ken Sanders is the perfect pick to sell this piece of twentieth century pop culture. He was a pitcher for nine teams over ten major league seasons and, although he moved around a lot, did have some time in the sun, specifically in 1971 when as a reliever for the Milwaukee Brewers he led the American League in saves. He also ended his career with an ERA under 3.
