For the next Prime Minister of Canada, Michael Ignatieff.
I don't get it.
Stephen Harper is taking us the wrong way, he is doing what Michael Harris did back in the day in Ontario, that is he is copying the Yanks but copying stuff that they have tried or are doing that patently doesn't work such as the insane war on drugs, especially mary-jane, not to mention minimum sentences without judicial discretion which is insane in the membrane.

And in other news that the MSM tries to bury well off of the front page;
ReplyDeleteWith two months left to report for the 2009-10 fiscal year, the federal government has a budget deficit of $39.6 billion, whereas Finance forecast a $53.8-billion shortfall for the entire fiscal year. Should the momentum continue, it is possible the federal deficit for this fiscal year could be quite a bit smaller than projected.

Thing is, we always have to do what is dumbed down, and sounds best, cheapest, and easiest, to the masses, before we actually settle down and try to solve a problem. When the public is allowed to make choices that typically have been in the hands of renowned experts, you can expect some... ahem... problems.
ReplyDeleteConservatives sell a pie-in-the-sky world, where no-one has to pay any taxes, no-one gets sick, real estate keeps going up, stocks keep rising (because their cousins sell them, and the multinationals care so much about the general public), the earth never runs out of ANY resources, and crime no longer exists. They never consider human greed, or basic human nature. The new Cons are worse - thinking that the Earth doesn't matter because God will save them (and them alone).
People buy the simplification, because all we ever see in public is discussion on how we need to simplify problems, and find cheap solutions to everything (no matter the extreme costs further down the road)...
