1058...A British View Of Canada

Norman Spector of the Globe and Mail writes that back in the day departing ambassadors would write a farewell telegram to the home office [Home Office?] summarizing their posting.

On the BBC website today there apparently are a number of these summations including one from a lad named Lord Moran who from '81 to '84 was Britain's rep in Canada. He closed his summation of his time in Canada with this observation about our politics, politicians and way of doing business:

"Little ideology. Excessive patronage. Poor quality of politicians. They look after each other."

The more things change, the more the stay the same.

  1. Wise and unfortunately true words by Mr. Moran and like you said, I too don't think the next election will change much. We'll still be in the same pathetic situation as now. We'll see though...

    Take care, Lorne
