The New Democratic Party, which has been 1/the New Democratic Party for 48 years and 2/not even close to forming a national government in its existence or 3/being in opposition, like, not even a silver f'ing medal, if one is to define loser on a national party level, step right up NDP.
Anyhow, they have a convention this month in Halifax, a good drinking town by the way, and they are giving serious thought, writes Lawrence Martin this morning, to dropping the "New" and becoming the Democratic Party.
You still cannot make a silk purse out of a pig's ear.
A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
The NDP are still number 3. Except when they are number 4.

"You still cannot make a silk purse out of a pig's ear." Well ... that little quote would more appropriatly be applied to the Reform/Alliance/Conservative Party which has stumbled from new name to new name.
ReplyDeleteThen there are the Liberals, who's idiotic (and criminal) shenanigans in Quebec with Adscam, etc. who could also be described by your quote.
The fact that the New Democrats have not been the national government is a fact, but they have been the provincial government of BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia. Scoff if you wish ...
Thanks for the comment but I stand by my post.
ReplyDeleteSilver medal is first loser; bronze is second loser.
The Reform/Alliance/Conservative Party has stumbled from new name to new name but they also have stumbled in and out and in again at 24 Sussex.
Ditto the Liberals.
No orange and black and green and silver carpeting at 24.

"No orange and black and green and silver carpeting at 24" ... for the moment! Stay tuned!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the NDP should re-name themselves the "Canadian Socialist Party." That's an honest enough name isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHave you never heard of 'social democrats'?? To call the New Democratic Party ... 'socialist' is highly uninformed. It shows a clear 'right wing' mindset at work. I am going to guess that you are a Liberal?
ReplyDeletePost script:
ReplyDeleteThis is what a 'Social Democrat' believes essentially ...
This is what a 'Socialist' believes.
The New Democratic Party is 'social democratic' ... only the politically uninformed or politically biased would consider the NDP to be 'socialist'.
Someone struck a nerve, eh leftdog?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, it's all going to be better.
Hmm, so how about "Canadian Democratic Socialist Party?
