I am not a huge fan of the man but one thing he has said, and I will paraphrase it, repeatedly is true and relates to me and my blog.
What Noam Chomsky said was that, again paraphrasing, most people in America don't follow politics closely coz politicians deliberately make politcs boring keeping the hoi poll oi unengaged. Yet in every city of any size in America there is a 24 hour sports station with callers who can and will rationally discuss and compare the power play of the 1963-64 Toronto Maple Leafs to the present day Detroit Red Wings because they are engaged.
How that relates to moi is that out of 4229 posts the two that have attracted the most views are one about Brett Farve's penis. For those of you not savvy to Mr. Farve, he is a Mississippi boy who spent most of his career in Green Bay, Wisconsin playing a game. The second is a recent post I did about an Ottawa radio talker, Michael Harris, getting the boot from CFRA.
I could/have written volumes about important issues of the day but these trivial stories capture your attention at an exponentially higher level.
Noam Chomsky was right.
