1161...Liar Liar PM's Pants On Fire

This is not the House so it is kosher to call a spade a spade and a liar a liar and this is one of those instances.

Althia Raj from the Ottawa Sun's National Bureau is kind enough to point out that "Harper made Senate reform a top concern when he entered office in 2006. He appeared before a committee of senators pleading with them to support bills that limited senators' terms and allowed provinces to elect nominees to the upper chamber."

Then "...a year after Harper won his second election and stacked the chamber...[with] 27 new Senate appointees...[who] can reverse Liberal actions...[now] the minister in charge of reform says Senate elections are no longer a pressing issue."

Manitoba Moose fan and Minister of Democratic Reform Steven Fletcher commented thusly: "Blah blah blah blah yadda yadda blah."

Something like that.

The party Prime Minister Harper started with, Reform, had a Triple E Senate proposal. It was, if memory serves, to be a Senate with six Senators elected from each province. The idea looked great to future Calgary real estate salesman of the year Stephen Harper then; not so good now that he can stack the Senate with sycophants like Mike Duffy.
