1.53 a person each and every person in Canada contributes 1.53 a person to support the fluke by birth monarchy of another country.
Janet Bagnall of the Montreal Gazette writes that "The Monarchist League likes to point out that the roughly $50 million a year this amounts to is less that it costs to keep the Senate in business and on a par with the cost of the National Gallery of Canada and slightly more than running the Library of Parliament." Well, I would like to point out to the The Monarchist League that the Senate, the National Gallery of Canada and the Library of Parliament are in this f#@king country.
The Queen is not; if she wants to be the Queen of Canada, move here.
We have our own ribbon cutter, the GG, who costs the same as a small double double, 1.24 per and she is one of us.
I still like the Dan Plan, Lotto Royal, but, failing that, jetison the Queen and let's move on.

ReplyDeleteThe $1.53 is not "to support the fluke by birth monarchy of another country", but whenever you have a head of state, there are costs to maintain it. Should you venture to compare the Canadian sum with, let's say France or Germany, you would realize, that having a Monarchi is actually cheaper.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, the Queen does not get a salary, neither as Queen of the UK nor as Queen of Australia or as Queen of Canada. Her Majesty cannot be bought. She comes free of charge.
Are you sure that 50 million to keep the monarchy is not the budget allocated to the GG, including running Rideau Hall, security, travel costs incurred at the request of the government, etc?
