Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the pool this comes up, this being a new strain of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
The new strain of HIV has, according to today's edition of Nature Medicine, discovered in a woman from Cameroon. The woman, who now resides in Paris, France, was diagnosed in 2004. The 62 year old has not become an AIDS patient yet and is a bit of a mystery in that she was not exposed to Gorillas or Chimpanzees and was not a consumer of bush meat which is a colloquialism for eating our Simian counterparts and often provides the jumping off point for HIV strains to enter the Homo Sapiens world.
It, this new strain, is all a bit of a mystery. The lack of information about this new strain, is it a one off thing, is it circulating through out Cameroon, West Africa, what, what, is what concerns the scientific community.
