2298...NHL Give Your Head A Shake

It seems that what Dalton McGuinty said a year or two ago about snow and hockey is correct: the former has to naturally occur in the market that a hockey team is based or the team is cooked.

Case in point: Phoenix.

So why doesn't the NHL get its act together and throw a couple of teams in the GTA. Toronto is always telling us what a major league city it is, the New York of Canada. Prove it. The New York of New York has three NHL teams [Devils; Isles and; Rangers]; Los Angeles has two [Ducks and; Kings].

You could drop a team in Oshawa, Hamilton, Kitchener and make the league sizzle.

Think of the rivalries.

Or Mississauga.

Acting Mayor Nando Iannicca asked The Toronto Sun “Where else?. The airport is here, the infastructure is here, the fans from Hamilton and Buffalo would be closer and you could have a venue near one of the 400 series of highways.”

Of course having a series of rivalries in the biggest hockey market in the world makes perfect sense.

Which is why the NHL won't do it.

  1. 'New York of New York' has 2 NHL teams- Devils are of the state of New Jersey.

Why don't they bring back the Quebec Nordiques...?

  2. You are slow. New Jersey is in the New York Metropolitan area. In fact, before they moved to Newark, the Devils played in the same complex as the Jets and the Giants, the New York Jets and Giants, in the Meadowlands.

This may surprise you Princess but many sports teams don't exactly play in the town that they represent.

Examples are the two New York NFL teams who play in another state. You can also add the Buffalo [Orchard Park] Bills to the list along with several other clubs.

As for the Quebec Nordiques. Just like the Jets they may get a team but it will be difficult to keep a squad there coz they are hard towns to sell to the wives.

Sh*tty weather, bad shopping, nothing to do and, in the case of Quebec, a language barrier.
