Case in point is their proposed closing of prison farms.
Liberal MP Mark Holland thinks it is insane. Here is a bit from the Kingston Whig-Standard, the paper of record in Canada's number one prison town:
According to Correctional Service Canada data released to the Whig-Standard this week, Canada's six prison farms earned $7.5 million in 2007-08. That year, expenses at the farms totalled $11.6 million
The resulting $4.1 million in annual operating losses led to the order from the federal government to close the facilities, including the two at Frontenac and Pittsburgh institutions in Kingston.
Mark Holland says that while the farms may have cost money to run, replacing them with other programs will cost just as much, if not more.
"They're not counting any of the dollars (to run) a new program, which would be more than $4 million," said Holland.
"I think that proves they were dishonest in their figures."
These prison farms supply the prisons with food stuffs and keep idle hands busy.

Unless we can get Sheriff Joe to run them, I suspect the'll just be another boondoggle. What exactly are we teaching them anyways? To come to BC and grow pot?
ReplyDeleteMark Holland says so?? Must be right then.
ReplyDeletethe'll? That's not even a word ridenrain. Please go home, get out your spelling textbook and resubmit a better thought out point.
