516...Italian Weddings Are So Full Of Excitement

One only has to drive by St. Anthony's Church, Booth and Gladstone here in Ottawa, any summer Saturday afternoon to see that.

My people, the Irish Catholics do death well; the Italians have the corner on weddings.

For a wedding to really be a hit it has to have something different, something more exciting than the other sixteen weddings you have been to this summer.

No different in Italy. Weddings in the old country are always trying to out do themselves.

Corriere della Sera reports about a recent wedding reception held at beautiful Montioni Park in Suvereto, near Livorno, the bride and groom had hired a microlight plane to fly past and throw the bouquet to a line of women guests, however, the flowers were sucked into the plane's engine causing it to catch fire and explode.

The aircraft plunged into a hostel. One passenger on the plane was badly hurt.

But about 50 people who had been in the hostel escaped unscathed, as did the pilot.

On the plus side, they will be talking about this wedding for years and years and years.

502...Apparently Vanier Is A Voisinage

I seem to have touched a wee nerve with post 499 which was about a wedding that turned out badly in the United Kingdom. I believe I called it a very Vanier wedding.
deBeauxOs said... Your uncritical fawning over Mayor O'Brien is mildly irritating but this unwarranted dig at Vanier (a voisinage of Ottawa) ... remind me what it is you think about yourself as being progressive?
For those of you who do not know Vanier, a voisinage in Ottawa [voisinage is the uppity way of saying quartier which is the french way of saying neighbourhood which is the white way of saying 'hood], is a colourful voisinage/quartier/neighbourhood/'hood just east of the Rideau River in Ottawa.
It has a lovely strip club, The Playmate, a number of by the hour motels [I believe the Concorde Motel, 333 Montreal is the jewel in that realm, n'est pas?], the hookers and johns to support such, a thriving crack cocaine industry and many pawn shops. Plus a crime rate that exceeds that of the rest of our bucolic capital.
Nonetheless, I am sure Mr. deBeauxOs sees things differently than I do and I apologize for upseting his progressive applecart.
I will try to subscribe to group think in the future and I thank you for pointing out my foibles.

As for fawning over Mayor O'Brien, no, not to challenge your literacy skills and reading comprehension but I don't believe I have done that, sir, all I have said is that he is going to get acquitted.

499...And You Thought Your Saturday Sucked

It was a very Vanier wedding.

Justin Penrose in theMirror.co.uk reports that there was a wedding that wasn't in Great Billing, Northants, United Kingdom.

It were cancelled after police arrested the bride, groom, best man and a witness. Acting on a tip-off from the United Kingdom Border Agency, party poopers the UKBA is, they seized the wedding party just minutes before the ceremony.

The groom was a legal entrant from Portugal but the pregnant Nigerian bride, the best man and witness had all entered the country illegally. When the party arrived at the church they found it locked and the vicar missing.

Po po swept in and all four were arrested on suspicion of facilitating a sham marriage.

And you thought your Saturday was bad.

253...June Is The Month Of Weddings/I Need A Job

First it was the compact car then it was karaoke now this innovation comes from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Yoko Kubota, Reuters Tokyo writes in today's Ottawa Citizen that, like here, it is wedding season in Japan, but instead of opting for a small event in tough times, big weddings are in vogue and that couples with small families and limited amounts of friends and coworkers can rent fake family, friends and colleagues to plump up the guest list.

This is where I come in.

If you are getting married, and are having a hard time filling up your side of the church, please contact me, The World Famous Dan Shields. For a fee I will help fill up your side of the church, eat your food, drink your drink and tell embellished stories about your youth. And I can bring a crew with me. Multi or mono ethnic.

You know how to get a hold of me.
