525...CFL Spygate

Trolling the web, I end up at NESN, the New England Sports Network, primarily because I have a crush on Hazel Mae, Google her, you will understand, but alas a Canadian Football League story pops up.

Michael Hurley, an Irishman in New England, OMG, sources CBC.ca, the Globe and Mail and the Winnipeg Sun in his story that a scout for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was caught taking notes at the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ practice and was promptly removed from the stadium.

Despite this seemingly glaring infraction, the league has decided to do what the CFL does about everything.

Nothing.

Plus it never happened, the scout, Rob Trentini, just got lost going to the bathroom. “It should be noted that the [Blue Bombers] did not engage the services of this individual who attended an open practice for said purposes, nor do we condone any such actions,” team president Lyle Bauer said. “Although we have used the services of this individual in the past, it has been in the area of personnel scouting, including tracking of Canadian and CIS [Canadian Interuniversity Sport] players.”

Tiger-Cats GM Bob O’Billovich is convinced that Mr. Trentini was ordered to go to practice by a superior in the Bomber organization. Like, doh.

However, the league could not punish the Bombers because there was no rule in place against scouting practices. That’s certain to change now, right? Well, no, not really, the CFL has tradition, doncha know?

489...Free Slurpees For You Tomorrow

I scalped this from the Winnipeg Sun.

Tomorrow, 7-Eleven will mark its 40th anniversary in Canada by handing out 1,000 free Slurpees at each of its 461 stores across the country.
I will be at the Scott and Parkdale store in Ottawa, 9 in the a.m., Raspberry sombrero.

487...Winnipeg City Of Champions

Ten years in a row.

Taking the title yet again, it is Winnipeg, known to many as Winterpeg, is yet again the 7/Eleven Slurpee capital. Ross Romaniuk in the Winnipeg Sun tells me that for the tenth consecutive year the Manitoba capital leads the world in Slurpee consumption.

With the highest average number of Slurpees sold per store, Manitoba has taken top spot over runners-up Calgary and southwest Detroit. Manitoba's sales of Slurpees were 20% higher than Calgary.
